The second MAKING-CITY project meeting took place on 15-16 May in Groningen, the Netherlands. The partners had the opportunity to share the first results of the research activities leading to the transformation of the urban energy system into smart and low-carbon cities, following the concept of Positive energy districts (PED). They also participated in a series of workshops and visited the two energy-positive areas selected in Groningen to implement the PED approach developed in MAKING-CITY.
After a short presentation of the PED installations in the two “Lighthouse” cities – Oulu (Finland) and Groningen (Netherlands), the partners participated in the first workshop, moderated by Demir Energy (Turkey). The main goal was to create a series of guidelines and solutions for the reproduction of the PED concept in the 6 “follower cities” participating in MAKING-CITY: Leon (Spain), Basano del Grapa (Italy), Kadıköy (Turkey), Lublin ( Poland), Poprad (Slovakia) and Vidin (Bulgaria).
For example, the partners discussed the available types of resources in each city, the specific needs of the city, as well as the obstacles to implementing solutions for the implementation of Energy Positive Zones.
During the second seminar (led by Cap Digital and VTT), various indicators at city level were discussed, which will be used to assess the results achieved and the impact. Later, a seminar on Business Models was held, coordinated by R2M, France. The partners analyzed possible approaches to the PED ecosystem, proposing concrete proposals for actions and solutions. An hour of them will be performed in the two “Lighthaus” cities: Oulu and Groningen.
